Gammplatsen (the Old Site) is a special area, as it is the birthplace of Lycksele.
Here the town was founded as a church and market place in 1607.
It was here that the Sami and the settlers met in order to do business.
Since 1948 Gammplatsen is a homestead area with historical buildings that have been moved here from various parts of the Municipality of Lycksele.

Today Gammplatsen is the perfect place to visit for all ages.
It can offer a variety with the Forestry Museum, a Sami residence, and beauty-spots, where a cultural botanical garden is being developed. 

Here you can try baking in the baking-cottage, dress up as an old tradesman, Sami or lumberjack, or why not take on the challenge to operate a forwarder.
