The Municipality of Lycksele can offer rich natural assets, exciting forests, thriving wetlands and living waters.

”Låt sista älven som brusar i vår natur brusa alltjämt mellan fjällar och gran och fur”
"Let the last turbulent river in our landscape go on roaring among mountains and spruce and pine."

The beautiful Vindel River and the battle over its exploitation inspired Swedish troubadour, Evert Taube, to write "Änglamark" (Angels' Land), a song that may be regarded as an early worded environmental objective for biological diversity. The river was protected from water power exploitation and is now as a national river an important asset for nature conservation, outdoor life, tourism and local development in Lycksele.

In the municipality there are also a number of other nice areas of great natural value. In fact, there are no less than 25 nature reserves , 15 sites of national interest for nature conservation and 31 areas belonging to the EU Natura 2000 network .

The Lyckan Recreation Area, 7 kilometres from central  Lycksele, includes about 8 000 hectares of beautiful scenery and nice fishing waters. There are plenty of cottages, resting places, windbreaks and good hiking routes. The area is also easily accessible via the forest motor roads that run through.

Even those who like hunting can feel secure. In the Lycksele area there are about 500 000 hectares of hunting grounds. If you choose to hunt on your own, you will only have to buy a hunting permit for the area in question. You can also book a complete package arrangement in company with a skilled hunting guide. In order the take part in moose hunting you will have to contact one of the local hunting parties.

There are excursion destinations of great natural beauty like Altawari (Altarliden) with its ancient remains and view of Ruskträsk. The Mårdsele Rapids in the Vindel River are roaring on their way downstream among about 40 islets, many of them connected via suspension bridges and foot-bridges. Here you can find windbreaks, fireplaces and a café cottage for those who would like to have a break during their expeditions. The Vindel River is a favourite of the rapid shooters. Several of the activity enterprises have rapid shooting on their menus, where you can decide the degree of difficulty yourself. The Öre River is very well suited for canoe trips. Do not hesitate to make a longer trip and spend the night out of doors in the light summer nights. There are canoes and life-jackets for hire. There is also a number of well-trodden hiking routes. Some of them are on solid ground, others require short rowing-trips. The latter goes for e.g. Domarvägen (Judge Road) which offers sections of various lengths, from 2 to 15 kilometres. Smörbanan (the Butter Track) between Granträskliden and Kulla, The Old Lycksele Road between Bocksliden and the road to Ekorrträsk and Magdalenastigen (the Magdalena Path) starting just outside town, are nice tips for visitors who like hiking. There is a lot to tell about hunting, fishing and nature experiences in the Municipality of Lycksele. Contact the Tourist Information Office for further information.
