The site for the Sámi residence is historical. Here at the Old Site Lycksele officially became a church and market site in 1607. This means that Lycksele also celebrates its 400-Year Jubilee in 2007. In recent years the Sámi residence has developed into a meeting place for resident Sámi in the region and for tourists who would like to see a very genuine residence. Here real enthusiasts from the  local Sámi Association have built and restored in accordance with the old traditions. There is no room here for nails, plastic or sheet-metal.
