A whole new community grew up next to the deposit. Kristineberg had become a new Klondike. In 1943, when the dressing-plant had been built, the company had about 500 employees, and the number of inhabitants in the once so small village was now close to 1 000. The Figure In 1946 something occurred that really put Kristineber on the map. It stirred great commotion far away from Kristineberg and far away across county and national borders. When the dust had subsided after a blast about 100 metres down in the mine, a two-metre tall figure had appeared on the rock wall - a Christ figure had been revealed. People were flocking in order to have a look at Christ in shining quartzite and an ankle-length mantle. Later on the shaft was filled up - but the discovery, which has been a source of inspiration for a great number of works of art and prophesies - has never ceased to fascinate people from all over the world. personer.
